Doane Shower

This shower was part of the back-to-backer shower weekend. I had showers on both June 23rd and June 24th because Dee-Dee was kind enough to coordinate her family and her Sunday school class to fit my schedule. (For those of you who may not know, I have been working in Nashville this summer. Thus, I have to come back on the weekends for showers, luncheons, etc.) Anyway, this shower was thrown by Dee-Dee's sister-in-law Veronica, who had the help of her 2 beautiful daughters, Makayla and Makenzie. The table was lined with some of Veronica's and Grandmomma's sweet fixins. Veronica did a marvelous job coordinating solo. I got to re-meet some ladies, introduce myself to lifelong Doane family friends and spend time with others that I get to see frequently.
One of the best moments of the shower was when Elizabeth, who was recording my gift history, got a ribbon stuck on her shoulder or butt...somewhere...I can't remember. Well, it wouldn't have been that funny, except her 4 year old daughter, Isabella, was furiously pointing and giggling like she had never seen anything funnier. At one point, Isabella was literally rolling on the floor laughing. It was just one of those 4 year old moments that makes you wish you could find something so simple so much fun.
Another neat thing that happened at this shower was my cookbook that I received. Dee-Dee's sister, Marisa, had asked the women in Nick's family and my mom for recipes, and then combined them and organized them for me to have. I know it took alot of planning and asking and time spent at the computer. I am so grateful for her time and creative thought! I can't wait to make some of Nick's favorite dishes (and maybe some of mine, too!).

Thank you Doane family. Even though I won't have your name attached to mine, I am so excited to become part of your family! You have welcomed me in and loved me from the very beginning, and I can't thank you enough for supporting Nick throughout his life and creating the man I fell in love with!
